Ten questions, answered honestly · Including the awkward ones

Four lines on the panel, three actual ingredients — turmeric appears twice. Each one raises a different question.

The advertising promises glucosamine, chondroitin, boswellia, MSM and bromelain. None of those five are below. Our questions page covers that discrepancy in full.

Supplement Facts

Serving Size: 1 capsule
Servings Per Container: 30
 Amount Per Serving
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) root Extract 4:175 mg
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) root Extract (95% curcuminoids)30 mg
Coleus Forskohlii Extract15 mg
Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) fruit Extract (BioPerine®)5 mg

Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate. Daily Value not established for any of the above. Transcribed from the product label supplied with this project.

Why can't the dose be worked out exactly?

Because two of the four lines withhold the information you would need.

The 30 mg entry states 95% curcuminoids, so 28.5 mg of it is the compound the research is about. That is checkable by anyone.

The 75 mg entry states a 4:1 ratio, which tells you how the extract was manufactured rather than what came out of the process. The 15 mg Coleus Forskohlii states nothing at all.

So our figure of roughly 35 mg is an estimate. We chose the generous end deliberately, so that nothing on this site depends on us being unkind with arithmetic.

One question each

The Three Ingredients

1

Turmeric & Curcuminoids

Is there enough?

No. A genuinely researched ingredient at roughly a tenth to a fortieth of the amount those studies used.

2

Coleus Forskohlii

Why is it here?

We cannot answer that well. Researched for eye pressure and asthma rather than joints, at a strength the label declines to state.

3

BioPerine® Black Pepper

Does it help?

Yes, genuinely — and it is the best decision on this label. It also raises absorption of your other medicines.

The missing five

What About the Ingredients I Was Promised?

A fair question, since for many buyers these will have been the whole reason for the purchase.

Glucosamine and chondroitin. Both advertised, neither on the panel. Worth knowing that their own evidence is genuinely contested rather than settled — the NIH-funded GAIT trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2006 with around 1,600 participants, found neither reduced knee pain significantly against placebo overall, though a moderate-to-severe subgroup showed possible benefit. European trials of glucosamine sulfate have generally been more positive than North American trials of the hydrochloride form.

Boswellia. A tree resin with some reasonable osteoarthritis trials behind it, acting on a specific inflammatory pathway. Advertised, not on the panel.

MSM. A sulfur compound with several small positive joint studies. Advertised, not on the panel.

Bromelain. A pineapple-derived enzyme with anti-inflammatory research. Advertised, not on the panel.

So where do I get them?

Each one is sold plainly labelled as a single ingredient, widely, and usually for less money — with an amount printed that you can read and compare. Buying a formula in the hope that it contains them is the worst available option.

Cost

What Does It Cost?

Priced by the manufacturer and sold through BuyGoods. Because the sales page publishes figures that contradict one another, read the checkout total carefully before confirming.

Why we flag the prices: three separate price tables appear on the sales page and they disagree with each other. One bottle shows as $158 in two of them and $89 in the third. Three bottles shows as $207 and also $177. Only the six-bottle figure of $294 was identical everywhere, and it is the only one we could match against the BuyGoods checkout.

The crossed-out numbers are reference prices the manufacturer publishes; we found nothing showing the product has sold at them, so they are not a saving. "See Details" opens our pricing page, which links to the official checkout. We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Where to Buy, and What to Ask First

Some readers will work through every answer here and decide to try it anyway. That is a reasonable thing to do with clear eyes. The pricing page has the current totals, the figures that contradict each other, and the questions to put to a pharmacist first.
